This is how I often see Varda whenever I read Silmarillion. Yeah, just looks like Luthien in a white gown.

anyway, I think I should adapt how most people portray Varda with the white everythingies.

well, actually it isn't really sadness, as you said it's more solemn... but i think Varda is more - more joyful, cause it is said that she was the most beautibul of all and 4 me beauty is also happiness.... but perhaps it was the kind of sad beauty like the one of the elves

Ah, such beauty! The lighting is just perfect, and I love how you can still kind of see her hair against the background down there. It looks so real, and the piece totally has this magic-goddess-royal-lady feel to it.

I think it's a beautiful Varda you've drawn here! I rarely see designs of Valier I like, and this one is amazing. She's as beautiful as she's supposed to be (who cares about Luthien. She is only half-maiar XD), and her posture tells of power and empathy.
I love the way you painted the sky and the stars, as well as the hues (shadows and lightings) of the dress.
Wonderful painting.
